Chairwoman and OWIT Representative
Monika Sandman - President - URUSAN
Consulting Monika Sandman is the principal of URUSAN Consulting, a firm providing international trade consulting services since 1991. As a licensed customs broker and holder of national permit, she leads a team of expert consultants to major corporations in the areas of trade compliance. In the last few years, she expanded into automation tool development to provide trade solutions. Her client roster includes: Applied Materials, Google, ITT, EFI, NUMMI and many others. Monika has been on the WIT-NC Board for the past 7 years.


Beth Peterson - President - BPE, Inc.
Beth Peterson is the President of Beth Peterson Enterprises, a consulting firm for global multi-national shippers and transportation providers, specializing in global trade management and supply chain planning. Prior to founding Beth Peterson Enterprises, Beth was Vice President of Marketing for Open Harbor where she was charged with leading the company's marketing and solutions initiatives. Prior to Open Harbor, Beth served as the Vice President of Product Strategy for Qiva, Inc. Prior to this, Peterson managed Hewlett Packard's U.S. import operations as the U.S. import operations manager and DHL Airways, Inc. where she was a logistics services manager. Beth has over 21 years experience in the logistics and international transportation business. She offers additional domain expertise as a licensed customs broker. Beth served as Secretary and Webmaster for WIT-NC from 2000 to 2004 and as President of WIT-NC in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Beth was awarded OWIT Member of the Year in 2006.


Vice President
Christine Deihl - CargoSmart Limited
Christine Deihl has worked in the international trade business for six years at CargoSmart Limited where she is responsible for developing and executing marketing programs. CargoSmart's application and integration services help shippers plan, process, monitor, and share their ocean shipment information more efficiently. Before CargoSmart, Christine worked at Oracle Corporation for five years. Her roles included marketing manager of customer programs and events coordinator in the server technologies division. She received an M.B.A. degree from NYU Stern School of Business and a B.A. degree in psychology from Pitzer College. Christine has served as the WIT-NC Programs Director from 2005 to 2007.


Jane Solomon is the Trade Compliance Manager for Anritsu Company. She is responsible for Export and Customs compliance for the Americas regional area. Ms. Solomon began her compliance career with Wiltron Company, later acquired by Anritsu Corporation in Japan, in 1989. Quickly moving from her original position into the compliance area she assumed the position of Export Control and Customs Administrator. Promoted again in 1994 to Export Control Manager, she was responsible for oversight of Anritsu's Distribution License and later their Special Comprehensive License with consignees worldwide and all areas of export. In 1995 Ms. Solomon became Trade Compliance Manager continuing to oversee the America's region and is responsible for all export and customs compliance processes for all offices in the United States, Canada, Latin and South America. In addition to this, on a Global basis, Ms. Solomon created Anritsu's worldwide global organization that develops and is responsible for internal policy and procedures that assures global company adherence to multi country export regulations.


Julie Gibbs is a Senior Consultant at BPE.
Prior to joining BPE, Julie was the Director of Product Management and Professional Services at Ensenda, a carrier management and last mile logistics service provider. Her responsibilities included defining the product strategy for Ensenda's web based transportation products in addition to implementation of all of Ensenda's customers. Prior to Ensenda, Julie was a Product Manager at Open Harbor and was responsible for the design of the company's global trade management and customs clearance solutions. Prior to Open Harbor, Julie has held positions at the Gap, Qiva, and Hewlett Packard. During her eight year tenure at Hewlett-Packard, she managed several Import Operations programs including Drawback and NAFTA. Julie has held her customs broker license with CBP for 10 years. She holds an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University and a B.A. in Business Economics from U.C. Santa Barbara.


Co-Assistant Treasurer
Carol Shields -Senior Export Compliance Administrator - KLA-Tencor Corporation. Carol Shields has been Senior Export Compliance Administrator at KLA-Tencor Corporation for the past three years. Her role as export compliance administrator includes responsibility for the development and execution of corporate export compliance policies and management systems guidelines to ensure that KLA-Tencor's global export operations are compliant with U.S. and international trade laws. She has served as International Committee Chairman, American Electronics Association.


Co-Assistant Treasurer
Jane Watkins has been the Supervisor of Export Compliance at Applied Materials, Inc. for the past year. Her responsibilities include export operational and procedural development. Prior to joining Applied Materials, she was with Varian, Inc. in the role of Manager, Corporate Export Compliance.


Program Director
Eva Galfi is currently working in the Sydney, Australia office of Deloitte's Global Trade Solutions practice. Her current focus is to assist Australian and AsiaPac companies navigate the complexities of U.S. import and export regulations and to assist U.S. companies with saving duty on capital investments in Australia and creating supply chain efficiencies in Australia and AsiaPac. Prior to moving to Sydney in August of 2008, Ms. Galfi has worked for U.S. based manufacturers and importers and in addition has six years of experience as an outside trade compliance consultant. She has assisted several clients with drafting import, export and supply chain security compliance manuals and procedures, conducted compliance audits and has also assisted companies in preparing for C-TPAT validation. In addition, Ms. Galfi has experience with advising clients on valuation issues, origin marking, First Sale for Export implementation, import and export classification and export jurisdiction analysis. She is a skilled classifier of high-tech products, including those found in HTS chapters 84, 85, and 90. Ms. Galfi holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Finance and Marketing and has earned an MBA in International Business from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. An active member of the trade community, Ms. Galfi is the former President and Chairwoman of the Organization of Women in International Trade's San Diego Chapter and served as a VP on the OWIT International board. She has been a member of OWIT since 1996 and involved with the Northern California Chapter off and on since 2001. Ms. Galfi is a licensed Customs Broker and Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer.


Marketing Director
Samantha Tuttle has made a career in both Customs and Export compliance for the past 20 years. She begin her career in the Global Logistics Department for Varian Associates. She subsequently moved to Hewlett-Packard, where she worked in the International Headquarters, managing export licensing applications for the Asia Pacific region and high risk countries; and, later for the Senior Legal Counsel reporting exports to the Bureau of Census. Samantha then moved from Palo Alto to the Rohnert Park Instrument Manufacturing site, where she worked on customs, export compliance, and carrier management for one of HP largest warehouse parts facilities with over 4,000 inbound suppliers. During her tenure at HP, Samantha was awarded the HP Golden Globe Award for Excellence. Following her leave to have her daughter Kate, Samantha has worked as a consultant for Tuttle Law Offices, offering her knowledge and skills to various companies in Bay Area in the areas of export/import classification, auditing and training. She is currently involved with PAEI (Professional Association for Exporters and Importers) and seved as a member of the WIT-NC marketing committee in 2007.

Amir Hossein Nayebzadeh currently holds the position of Customs Specialist at Spansion L.L.C. with responsibility for assisting with trade compliance processes on a global level. Amir has been a part of the Spansion Global Trade team since the company filed its IPO in December 2005. Prior to his career at Spansion Amir held a position at a system solution provider Xporta and was part of a group of consultants hired by UPS Brokerage to support the TradeAbility project. Amir studied Management Information Systems and Finance at San Jose State University and is fluent in German and Farsi.


Membership Co-Director
Elia Quiros - Varian Inc. Elia Quiros is a Senior Export Compliance Analyst at Varian Inc. During her tenure at other Silicon Valley companies, she has had the opportunity of working with domestic and foreign locations in developing policies and implementing export compliance programs, in addition to working with key players in implementing and managing programs in compliance with the U.S. and other countries import/export regulations. She is a licensed Custom Broker. She has been active at WIT-NC since early 2003 and has held the positions of Assistant Treasurer in 2003 and 2004, and Event Coordinator from 2005 to 2007.


Volunteer Director
Suzanne Castle worked for Urusan Consulting before her retirement last year and has remained active and intersted in WIT its members, organization and charitable activities. Since volunteering is one of her retirement goals, it seems fitting to volunteer to work with friends. She is a past WIT NC volunteer of the year and worked with the board last year as Tour Committee Chair. She is, of course, also the official December event WIT elf.


Endowment Director
Susan Hankins - LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company. Susan Hankins has held the position of LifeScan's International Customs Compliance Specialist for the past 5 years. She has been a WIT-NC member since 2003. In 2005 she became a volunteer for WITNC, and in 2007 she became the first WIT-NC Endowment Director. At LifeScan she developed the company's customs compliance program, ensures compliance, as well as smooth importation of product. She works with multiple departments domestically, internationally and with other Johnson & Johnson companies. She has been with LifeScan for 15 years and has been on LifeScan's Community Relations Council for over 10 years.
