WIT-NC HOSTS 4-DAYS OF OWIT EVENTS IN SILICON VALLEY

The WIT-NC Board, sponsors, volunteers and members welcomed 30 OWIT delegates in Silicon Valley during September. WIT-NC produced an educational program, networking events and a regional tour providing a chock-full agenda for the out-of-town visitors. They experienced the richness and hospitality of the region as well as the generosity of the WIT-NC family.

WIT-NC hosted OWIT chapters from around the world in Silicon Valley September 13-17, for its annual Fall Board meeting. This annual event rotates amongst OWIT local chapters and decades have passed since WIT-NC has had the honor.

OWIT Chapter representatives from as far away as Kenya, Peru, Mexico and Canada gathered with chapters from D.C. Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, NY, Orange County and Los Angeles to join WIT-NC for four fun-filled days of networking and strategizing for the future success of our collective organizations. The events began with a casual meet-and-greet at the Marriott Santa Clara for cocktails and pupus and an opportunity for the visitors to relax after long travel schedules.

On Thursday, OWIT Executive Committee Board members convened for their planning session. WIT-NC sponsor, KPMG, hosted the meeting conveniently located walking distance from the Marriott.

WIT-NC, along with its newest partner, Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) kicked off the official festivities Thursday night with food and wine at our monthly networking event at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Cal Maritime Academy cadets in full dress uniforms welcomed our attendees to the Great America Ballroom where former WIT-NC/OWIT President, Laura Ipsen, current GM & SVP of Oracle's Marketing Cloud provided opening remarks and reflected on her history as a member of our organization.

Attendees enjoyed the rest of the evening with a high-level panel discussion on the nexus of Silicon Valley and global connections and the importance of building trust and facilitating trade. Panelists included Jenn Diaz, President, Diaz Trade Law, Dan Khoo, President of MDEC Americas and Irina Kasatkina, Director, Logistics Management and Trade Compliance, North America, Genentech. SCCC, Santa Clara Convention Center and WIT-NC sponsored the event.

On Friday WIT-NC board members and SCCC staff whisked board delegates away to an all-day tour of Napa Valley including a private luncheon prepared by the executive chef at Black Stallion Winery and tastings at St. Supery and Artesa wineries. Amber Road, boomerang carnets, The Law Offices of George R Tuttle, Global Training Center, Baker McKenzie and Google all provided sponsorships to cover the cost of transportation.

Sustaining sponsor, Genentech, hosted and provided transportation to and from the South Bay for the day-long general board meeting at Genentech’s international headquarters in South San Francisco.

The three-day event culminated Saturday evening with Mexican food and margaritas at Pedro's Cantina in Santa Clara where we celebrated and made plans for the 2018 Annual Fall Board meeting hosted by our OWIT Chapter in Nairobi, Kenya!!!! It promises to be an event WIT-NC does not plan to miss!
